NEWS: APS to Develop Techniques to Minimize Offshore Wind Turbine Vibrations
The U. S. Department of the Interior is funding APS to analyze the design of offshore wind turbine structures with regard to the minimization of turbine vibration to insure safe and reliable operation. In particular, APS is assessing existing resonance avoidance approaches and is identifying alternative approaches that may have less impact on the structural design of the wind turbine. This effort will involve the acquisition of data to validate models that are used in this assessment as well as the demonstration of alternative approaches. APS is applying its core capabilities in structural dynamics, hydrodynamics, fluid-structure interaction, vibration isolation and damping. In addition, APS is using the company's suite of mathematical models and associated computer simulation tools to optimize vibration mitigation approaches.
