Acoustics
The field of acoustics stretches wide, from speech and music, to medicine and non-destructive testing, to vibrations and noise control, and to underwater communication and surveillance. Many of APS’ technical staff have professional backgrounds in Naval acoustics, and almost all have academic backgrounds tied into the physics and mathematics of wave motion.
APS’ core competencies in acoustics fall under these general headings:
Our past and current work in acoustics focuses mainly on Naval applications such as ship and marine vehicle quieting and sonar. However, we are interested in solving non-military acoustic and vibration problems and have done so for siren manufacturers, fly-rod and golf club designers, fish acoustic researchers, and road noise engineers.
