Applied Physical Sciences operates an Acoustic Test Tank Facility (ATTF) at their newly expanded 145 Leonard Drive, Groton, CT location. The 3600 gallon capacity tank supports APS' development capabilities through in-house testing of transducers and sensors. The ATTF can be used in a non-reverberant, time-gated mode of operation for frequencies above 5 kHz. The ATTF has a single-shaft rotator system which can be operated continuously or in a stepped-angle mode. It can measure free-field voltage sensitivity (FFVS) and receive beampatterns for hydrophones and Transmit Voltage Response (TVR), transmit beampatterns, and impedance for acoustic transmitters. The facility can acquire 16-bit data at a 1MHz rate for a single channel or 8 channels at 125 kHz rate.
"The Acoustic Test Tank Facility provides timely, cost-effective evaluation of transducer characteristics to support rapid product development."
APS's fabrication facility, which already houses its prototyping machine shop and array termination capabilities, was expanded to accommodate the test tank as well as other development and prototyping operations. APS's now utilizes a total of 6000 square feet of industrial floor space at the Leonard Drive facility.
