Acoustic Navigation and Positioning
Under Phase II STTR funding, APS is developing an Ultra Short Baseline Localization (USBL) system for surf zone unmanned vehicle applications. The challenge on this project is developing a receive sensor that a) offers the requisite directionality at a low enough frequency to avoid excessive dissipation to bubbles and suspended sediment and b) is insensitive to the vibration and acoustic noise of the vehicle.
APS is developing custom vector sensor and transducer packages for this application.
