APS is actively seeking to fill the following positions in our Arlington (Ballston area), VA office.

Scientist

APS is looking for a recent Masters or PhD graduate with expertise in one or more of the following fields: Acoustics, Seismology, Physics, Applied Mathematics, Electrical Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering. This position will involve working closely with senior staff on complex problems in atmospheric and underwater acoustic propagation modeling, and acoustic signal processing and parameter estimation.

Background in algorithm development and computational modeling in MATLAB, C++ and/or Fortran is desired. Background in any of the following areas would be beneficial: sonar or radar signal processing, detection and estimation theory, adaptive signal processing, imaging, structural vibrations, electromagnetic wave propagation, and numerical methods.

Positions are open in both the Washington, D.C. and Groton, CT areas. Small company environment offers competitive salaries, excellent benefits, and comfortable working conditions.

US Citizenship Required. Must possess or be able to obtain a DoD security clearance.

Interested candidates should contact David Norris via email.

Senior Scientist

The ideal Candidate will have 10+ years experience with an advanced degree in a relevant technical field.  The Candidate will have demonstrated experience in the design of algorithms and novel approaches to infer real-world behaviors from complex sensor data.  The Candidate should have strong skills in the analysis and signal processing of sensor data using MatLab and/or mathematical modeling software tools.  A strong background in automated target tracking and target recognition will enable the Candidate to work with APS' systems engineers to define scene understanding system components. The Candidate should understand and be able to apply correlation processing, spectral analysis, advanced target feature estimation and statistical classification techniques to the outputs  of a variety of sensing system architectures.  Candidates with experience in advanced sonar and/or radar system design and applications would be a plus. The Candidate should possess or be able to obtain at least a DOD Secret Clearance.

Qualified applicants are invited to contact Mr. Jude Nitsche, APS Vice President, directly via Email.

Senior Systems Engineer

The ideal Candidate will have 5+ years experience with a BS Degree (MS preferred) in Physics, Mathematics, Engineering or Computer Science.  The ideal Candidate will have demonstrated experience in the design and implementation of distributed sensor systems using either acoustic or RF sensors, either for automated scene awareness applications. The Candidate should have experience in converting Matlab prototype algorithms to system software implementation.  Additionally, the candidate should have experience in the development of real-time control
software along with component architectures for sensor applications that handle the sensor utilization, signal processing, information processing and displays for real-world operations. Candidates with physical science backgrounds with an emphasis on the physics of sensing and the design of transducers would also be desired. The Candidate should possess r be able to obtain at least a DOD Secret Clearance.
